Identify the receiver and the purpose
Give the receiving person's or business's name, contact details and full delivery location. Explain what the goods are and why they are being sent. Personal belongings and business shipments can raise different documentation questions.
Do not send goods to a postal address on the assumption that it is a cargo facility. Ask the team for the actual collection or receiving instructions before arranging a handover in Nairobi or another destination.
Ask these questions about the quote
- Where does the quoted transport service end?
- Who will organise destination clearance and contact the receiver?
- Which handling or delivery charges are included?
- Which charges, if any, will be payable separately by the receiver?
- What information must the recipient provide before dispatch?
Check current requirements for the goods
Have applicable import requirements checked using current official guidance and the responsible destination adviser. Do not assume a tax exemption, permission or duty rate. This page is a preparation guide, not a customs calculation.
For temperature-sensitive goods or other specialist shipments, describe the conditions required throughout the journey. Acceptance and handling must be confirmed for the actual goods. Contact the UK team to start the enquiry and the Kenya office for agreed destination coordination.
