Essential Information Regarding the Repatriation of Human Remains

Planning and Booking

We cannot stress enough the importance of planning ahead, especially when involving the repatriation of human remains. No two airlines function the same and all have different booking confirmation requirements. It’s important you have the relevant information and documents at hand before you make a booking. This includes:

  • Preferred flight date and destination
  • Weight of coffin and size in cm
  • Complete set of required documents (listed below)
Labelling and Documents

It is necessary that the correct labels are fixated on the coffin before delivery to the airline. This ensures that the airline handlers can process the coffin without delays. Some airlines may request you to fixate original documents to the coffin while others will demand these to be handed in at reception upon delivery. The complete set of required documents is as follows:

  • Death Certificate
  • Embalming Certificate
  • Free From Infection Letter
  • Form 103 from Coroner
  • Funeral Director Declaration
  • Zinc Lining Certificate
  • Passport Copy of Deceased

Additionally, you may also require the following:

  • Embassy Letter or NOC
  • Apostille Certificate – for countries part of the Hague Apostille Convention

In the event of missing or unavailable documents it is crucial that you inform us as soon as possible so that we can liaise with airlines for a solution ahead of time. Doing so will ensure that your shipment departs as booked.
